Fine Woodworkers of Austin November 2nd Meeting Agenda
Thursday, November 2nd is our next meeting at Woodcraft of Austin. 7:00 to 9:00 PM
This month we will have Curtis Turner tell us everything we need to know about sharpening. He will show us how to get those plane blades, chisels and turning tools “scary” sharp.
Show & Tell:
Show and Tell will be a little different this meeting. We are asking members (who have them) to bring their sharpening stones (or other sharpening methods) so other members can get a look at them. If you would like to demonstrate how they are used, that would be even better. During this time, members will be allowed to use a variety of items that we will have set up to sharpening a few of their items that they would like to bring to the meeting. Time and resources may be limited so we ask that you be judicious with what you are personally trying to sharpen. There will be specific individuals floating around to help out anyone that may have difficulty getting that razor edge on their tool. This will also be a great way to try out a different way of sharpening that you may not have tried before but were interested in.
We will have at least the following: Worksharp 3000, Tormek, High Speed and Low Speed Grinders, Sharpening Stones, Sandpaper, and Sharpening Jigs.
This month we will also be holding elections for President and Vice President.
Q & A:
Do you have a woodworking question(s)? You can get answers from some of the most talented fine woodworkers in Austin.
Mike Drejza, treasurer, reminds all that our 2017 / 2018 annual dues of $36.00 dollars were due this past July 1. If you have not paid yet, please bring your dues to the November meeting and pay by either check or cash. Please make your checks payable to Fine Woodworkers of Austin.
For those of you that may be unaware, we also have a pre-meeting dinner at Maudie’s Tex Mex Restaurant, located at 10205 N. Lamar Blvd starting around 6 PM. There will be people there as early at 5:30 PM so if you would like to get a bite to eat prior to the meeting and get to know members a little better, then this is the place to be. You may contact Gene Berry to let him know you are coming so we can get the appropriate number of tables and chairs set up at the restaurant. Reservations are gladly accepted but not required to attend the dinner. See you there!
